At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.

Description of work place
The work will be conducted with a team of enthusiastic members of the Cancer proteomics Mass spectrometry (MS) research group led by Janne Lehtiö at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). SciLifeLab is a collaboration effort between four universities in Stockholm and Uppsala: Stockholm University, Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Uppsala University. The center combines state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine and molecular biosciences. From 2013 SciLifeLab has an assignment from the government to work as a national infrastructure. SciLifeLab vision is to be a competitive center for high-throughput biosciences for research within health and environment.

Description of research group
The Lehtiö group is working to improve cancer treatment by using human proteome analysis. Our group with a friendly and innovative atmosphere includes members from various disciplines working as a team to study proteins in the context of biological networks, understand how genome defects in cancer impact the proteome and discover cancer biomarkers to improve tomorrows cancer treatments.
Scientists, bioinformaticians and engineers in our group work closely together with clinicians to develop and use a variety of technologies to generate novel knowledge of cancer biology, develop new treatments and implement tools to support clinical-decision making of the disease.

We need a new team member
We seek an expert in technology transfer and commercialization of our research. Our new team member will manage activities related to mapping, identifying and developing further product and service opportunities stemming from the Lehtiö research lab.
Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of proteomics, cancer, the biopharmaceutical and/or diagnostics market as well as business strategy and development are essential. We offer a very stimulating and diverse working atmosphere in a team of very motivated co-workers. Therefore, the candidate is expected to engage and interact on a daily basis with researchers and staff in the group.

This is a fixed-term employment starting with one year. 

Qualifications

  • PhD in Life Sciences or equivalent, preferably combined with an academic degree in Business Administration
  • Several years of relevant research experience and in-depth knowledge of proteomics, genomics, cancer
  • Knowledge and experience in the biopharma business and industries relevant to the Lehtiö group’s activities
  • Experience in managing public-private collaborations, including setting up strategies and negotiating contracts
  • Fluent in English and Swedish

Meriting skills

  • First-hand experience with R&D, IP and business strategy, technical and market research, product and/or service positioning and related activities, preferably in an industry setting
  • Experience in managing academic spinouts, including finding relevant funding through private or public sources

Since the position involves close interaction with a people from different disciplines (researchers, administrators, financers, etc.) emphasis is placed on personal skills such as:

  • Very good collaborative and pedagogic skills
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical skills
