Karolinska Institutet,

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Background
The research at The Section of Pharmacogenetics https://ki.se/en/fyfa/section-of-pharmacogenetics at the Department aims to understand the basis for liver diseases and to identify the genetic origin for differences between individuals in drug metabolism, toxicity and drug response. We, in collaboration with others, strive to understand repair of liver injury and to develop novel in vitro systems for predicting drug response and adverse drug reactions as well as to develop in vitro systems for liver disease and their treatment. The research is financed from e.g. ERC, Vinnova, The Swedish Cancer Foundation, EU (H2020) and The Swedish Research Council.

Duties
We are looking for a post doc fellow who will work with the in vitro model for liver disease. The project focuses on use of complex multicellular 3D spheroid systems for identification of interventions of liver diseases like NAFLD, NASH and liver fibrosis. Using the 3D liver spheroid system composed of hepatocytes and non-parenchymal cells we mimic the different liver diseases and examine the mechanism behind using transcriptomic, proteomic and metabonomic analyses. We also screen different drugs and conditions for treating the induced diseases. The work includes to produce the liver spheroids from cryopreserved cells and cultivation of these systems.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

Qualifications
The applicant should have a PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, physiology or similar, obtained within the last 3 years. The applicant is expected to have a good understanding of biochemical, molecular biology, cell biology and/or genetic techniques, good communication skills and good proficiency in spoken and written English.
For this position the candidate in question should have at least two years of laboratory experience with focus on cell biology and molecular biology.
