Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre (ICMC)

ICMC is a research collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and AstraZeneca. The goal of the center is to identify and validate new target molecules within the cardiovascular area and metabolic diseases. Special focus is placed on the strategic research areas: Cardiac Regeneration, Islet Health (Diabetes) and Diabetic Nephropathy. This position offers direct collaborations with the Pharma Industry (i.e. AstraZeneca).

Duties
The successful candidate will work as technical assistant/laboratory manager under the group leader. The position offers an opportunity to participate in research projects to design and implement experiments and tests; document, analyze, and interpret results.

The position involves work in molecular and cell biology. Responsibilities will include supervision of mouse colonies including genotyping and functional analysis via echocardiography, ensuring proper laboratory equipment; ensuring the efficient operation of the research laboratory; ordering supplies; ensuring compliance with environment, health, and safety policies and procedures and training new members of the lab.

Entry requirements
The applicants should have a minimum of Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in medical science or cellular and molecular biology; willingness to work with mice; good experience with echocardiography and genotyping; PCR and qRT-PCR; primary cardiac-cell isolation and culture; Western blotting; cloning and bacterial culture; an awareness of the critical aspects of laboratory and chemical safety and the ability to follow procedures and maintain a safe work environment; strong communication and interpersonal skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Seek self-motivated and well organized critical thinker with excellent time management skills who can work effectively in a dynamic and diverse laboratory setting. Good ability to communicate in both English and Swedish is required.

Skills and personal qualities
We expect you to be a positive, flexible person with good communication skills and abilities to collaborate and work in a highly dynamic international research team. You need to be able to work both in a team as well as independently, and you must be very service minded. Your work is thorough and diligent, and you are good at documenting your work and working in a clean and precise way.

Interpersonal skills will be highly valued.
