Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are seeking a scholarship fellow in the field of electrochemical sensors to join an interdisciplinary project in translational medical research at Karolinska Institutet. This is an exciting opportunity to involve breakthrough research on developing wearable sensor devices for medical diagnostics, using a combination of electrochemistry and sensors.

Division

Applications are invited for scholarship fellow in Parlak Lab at the Division of Dermatology and Venereology, Department of Medicine, Solna and at the centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM). Parlak Lab focuses on developing novel medical diagnostic methods designing wearable sensors for microbiology, immunology and neuroscience. The group is building new interdisciplinary research as there is an immense potential for new fundamental insights to be discovered.

Duties

A research fellow in electrochemical sensors is needed to work in Parlak Lab in recently funded project. You will be part of a research team in Parlak Lab developing bioelectronic devices.

Specifically, you will work on the fabrication of bioelectronics devices for sensing. You will be integral members of the research team that works to generate high-quality biomedical devices in a high throughput format.

The work includes biosensor device, biorecognition design, and electrochemical analysis. The duties of the position also include reporting and data dissemination. Thus, your work will contribute to the broader goal of the project; to enable rapid, accurate, and safe biosensing, allowing clinicians to improve treatment decisions for the benefit of patients.

Entry requirements

We are looking for a curiosity-driven, inquisitive and enthusiastic person interested in our area of research and ready to explore new avenues in science. The candidate is expected to have a collaborative approach to research, work productively in a team, and contribute to a good social environment in the laboratory.

The applicant must hold a doctoral degree in natural or engineering sciences. The candidates with experience in electrochemistry and biosensors, are required and considered important merit to reach the goal of the doctoral project. The applicant needs to have a high degree of independence and motivation but should have no problems working in a team, given the collaborative nature of the project. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of ten divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within Onur Parlak´s team. Parlak team is a newly established research team in the Dermatology Division that aims to use innovative science at the interface between biotechnology, materials science, and electronics to tackle the key area of critical importance to society: healthcare and biomaterials. Parlak team investigates the application of bioelectronics in medicine to meet the need for complex, dynamic environments and to develop novel devices. The overall aim of the lab is to develop new technologies to combat healthcare challenges and design novel tools for early diagnostics and solutions for digital medicine and remote monitoring.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
