Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

The research in Galina Selivanova’s lab is focused on the identification and studies of the mechanisms and the impact on the tumor suppression p53 on anticancer immune response. To reach this goal, we use small molecules as research tools and apply systems biology and high throughput assays, such as transcriptome profiling, ChIP-seq, and shRNA screens. We aim to bridge cancer biology with immunology studies by performing multidisciplinary research at MTC, a very advantageous environment including experts in cancer and cell biology and immunology.

Division

Cancer and Tumor Biology division is a creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests focusing on focusing on basic mechanisms in causation of tumors and tumor progression, including host responses to tumor development. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about cancer and to promote a better health for all. Research at the division is carried out in several scientific areas which generates a diversified environment where cross-fertilization between different fields has the potential to generate novel and groundbreaking concepts.

Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated researcher to carry out an exciting endeavor aiming to elucidate the mechanisms of interaction of the p53 tumor suppressor with immune system. You will take part in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary cancer research program involving molecular and cell biology and immunology.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

In addition to the aforementioned requirements:

  • The applicant must hold a PhD in an appropriate scientific field, with at least 4 years of relevant and productive work experience and qualifications.

Meritorius for the position:

  • Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, IHC, ELISA, basic molecular techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, qPCR) and experience in animal models (mouse) are highly desired.
  • Experience with high throughput assays is preffered.
  • Applications will be particularly welcome from candidates who utilize creative experimental approaches at the interface between cancer biology and immunology.
  • Experience with supervision and teaching skills are beneficial.
  • Solid experience and excellent track record in the cancer field will be considered a distinct advantage.
