The Medical Inflammation Research (MIR) Group at the Division of Immunology, Karolinska Institute, aims to improve human health by identifying etiology and regulatory pathways of autoimmune diseases and as a basis of this research some of the major genetic polymorphic alleles have bene identified.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to lead and coordinate projects with a focus to understand Ncf1 polymorphism, regulating reactive oxidative species production, and its role for regulation of autoreactive B cells. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, access cutting-edge resources, and contribute to transformative discoveries that can shape the future of autoimmune disease treatment.

Your mission

We are interested in identifying etiology and regulatory pathways involved in the development of autoimmune disease, based on the identification of the genetic basis. Using animal models, the major genetic polymorphisms have been positioned. Single nucleotide polymorphism of the Ncf1 gene, leading to different capacities to produce reactive oxygen species by the NOX2 complex is one of the most important genetic factors in both humans and in animal models. In this project we will investigate the role of Ncf1 polymorphism to regulate autoreactive B cells. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process, from research planning and project administration, data processing and analysis, to interpretation and dissemination of research findings. You will be working with immunology-oriented research including experimental animals, immune assays and flow cytometry, single cell analysis and expression analysis. You are also expected to participate in the supervision of master students and teaching.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Specific requirements for the position:

  • Doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Immunology, or a related field.
  • Research experience in mouse handling, mouse breeding and genotyping, surgical procedures, as well as experience with laboratory cellular biology work
  • Strong background in protein biochemistry, mainly recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, biostatistical analysis
  • Prior proficiency with Äkta systems, flow cytometry, antibody based immune assays will be considered valuable.
  • Proficient knowledge of English

We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for highly creative and motivated employees who appreciate working in a team. We expect the applicants to show good cooperation skills and at the same time great independence.
