The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.
The Färnert research group focuses on understanding mechanisms of acquisition and maintenance of immunity to malaria, as well on clinical aspects of malaria. The group is currently pursuing a study on the importance of asymptomatic infection in migrant populations and is therefore seeking a research assistant who will focus on detection of parasites in clinical isolates.
The research assistant will be part of study inclusion, processing of samples and analyses of malaria parasites by different methods in the research laboratory. Moreover, the work will include assembling questionnaire data and performing systematic literature reviews.
The applicant should have an MSc degree, as well as knowledge and hands-on experience in clinical research in migrant health and diagnostics of infections including PCR analyses. Medical expertise and previous work with malaria and other parasites are an advantage.
The group is seeking a highly motivated research assistant. The candidate is expected to be well organized and able to work independently in a clinical research environment. The project is pursued in an interdisciplinary environment that involves collaboration with several groups; therefore, good collaborative skills are necessary. Fluency in English is mandatory.
