We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow for the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Department of Medicine, Solna. We perform international top-class clinical research and have a close collaboration with the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Allergy at Karolinska University Hospital. We offer good opportunities for network building and a profiled research focus.
The areas of research in this division are mainly analysis and data compilation of samples retrieved from patient cohorts with chronic respiratory diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In particular immunohistochemical and electronmicroscopic analysis of bronchial mucosal biopsies, bronchoalveolar lavage and other biological samples from bronchoscopy.
The new post doc will focus on immunohistochemical analysis of bronchial mucosal biopsies from prematurely born adults as a part of the LUNAPRE cohort. Also, electronmicroscopic evaluation of tissue samples will be a major duty. The research project is both independent and collaborative with units both at Karolinska Institutet and other universities, both nationally and abroad.
We are looking for a post doc with specific experience and knowledge in immunohistochemical staining and analysis. Experience in image analysis software and in comparing immunohistochemical results with clinical characteristics are required as are analysis of digitized histological and immunohistochemical materials.
Basic knowledge on respiratory diseases and experience in statistical analysis are mandatory as are knowledge in English, both orally and in writing. Previous experience in research on patient cohorts such as Karolinska COSMIC, LUNAPRE and BRONCHO-SCAPIS are meritorious.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of Magnus Sköld.
The research group is led by Professor Magnus Sköld and focuses on translational research in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Pulmonary Fibrosis. The group collaborates with units both within Karolinska Institutet and other universities, and also has international collaborations.
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
