Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are currently looking for an ambitious, highly motivated project leader with a solid background in molecular biology, biochemistry and epigenomics, to join the research group of Assistant Prof. Simon Elsässer.

Your mission

Our laboratory studies gene regulatory mechanisms that govern pluripotency, lineage commitment and differentiation in early mammalian development using quantitative methods. Combining precise, chemical control of proteins with quantitative (epi)genomic and proteomic read-outs allows us to dissect dynamic processes involved in DNA metabolism, gene regulation and cellular signaling.

The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in development and application of novel epigenome profiling methodologies, including single-cell techniques. The project leader position will include project organization, data analysis, drafting of scientific manuscripts and patent applications, laboratory training, student mentoring and research support tasks for the group. Team-oriented motivation, supervision experience, project management skills, technical expertise are required.

We are located within the modern Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) building on the Karolinska Institutet (KI) campus, Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. SciLifeLab also houses numerous state-of-the art national core facilities. We are additionally supported by the Division of Genome Biology, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics. Karolinska Institutet ranks as one of the world’s leading medical universities, thanks in part to the quality of its research activities, which today account for 40 % of all medical research in Sweden.

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in biochemistry or a related relevant field and 3, or more, years postdoc experience. A track record in the field of epigenomics is a prerequisite.

Extensive experience in the following experimental techniques are a requirement:

  • Epigenomics and transcriptomics techniques, such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, CUT&Tag, ATAC-seq, including single-cell implementations
  • Next-generation library preparation, quality assessment and operating Illumina sequencers
  • mammalian cell culture, genetic engineering e.g. using CRISPR
  • analytical and preparative cellular methods such as flow cytometry and FACS
  • protein biochemistry and protein purification
  • molecular cloning techniques, generation of viral vectors, transfections and viral transductions techniques
  • proteomics methodologies, such as affinity proteomics, cellular fractionation, sample preparation for bottom-up proteomics

Fluency in both written and spoken English is a requirement. The candidate’s communication and personal skills will be highly valued. The candidate will be expected to supervise PhD and master students as well as to coordinate the research within the project team and amongst larger collaborations. Project-related administrative and research support tasks are also part of the job profile. As project leader it is important to have the ability to organize, plan and document experimental bench-work at the highest level and the capacity to stay on top of the relevant research field. Writing grants and applying for funding will be requested, as well as designing and executing research.
