If so, join our research group in reproductive epidemiology which consists of researchers, postdocs and PhD-students conducting studies related to pregnancy, delivery and the neonatal period using national population-based health and quality registers. We are an expanding and exciting group with clinical researchers who will provide you with a welcoming workplace with inspiring epidemiological assignments for improvement of maternal and infant health.

Your mission

Reproductive epidemiology focus on factors during pregnancy and delivery influencing maternal and offspring health, both shortly after delivery and long-terms risks. The proposed work will include collaboration between epidemiologists, statisticians, and clinicians working

within this field at the Clinical Epidemiology Division, but also international collaboration with Canada. Data sources include primarily cohorts from national registers but also data from Stockholm and Gotland counties. The work will include studies of environmental factors and maternal and offspring health after delivery and later in life.

More specifically, some of the projects involve:

1. Impact of maternal chronic illness on offspring, short and long-term
2. Preventable and prognostic factors for the preterm infant
3. The severely depressed newborn infant: short and long-term consequences
4. The tendency to repeat outcomes in successive pregnancies
5. Effect of gestational weight gain on maternal and offspring health, short and long-term
6. Bariatric surgery before pregnancy and maternal and offspring health, short and long-term

The postdoctoral fellow will work with an international research team in an international collaboration to design and conduct research relevant to the research group’s agenda while receiving advanced training to enhance professional skills and research independence. The postdoc’s time will be devoted to data and database management, analysis, manuscript  preparation and career development. The candidate will be asked to collaborate with others, including graduate students, and provide her/his expertise in other projects. There are no teaching requirements but opportunities to teach can be facilitated

Your profile

The successful candidate has a strong interest and background in epidemiology or biostatistics. The candidate we are looking for is highly collaborative and generous with sharing her/his knowledge. She/he is an independent programmer, with a strong interest in biostatistics. Key skills include epidemiologic study design, longitudinal and survival modeling, and manuscript writing.

Skills: The applicant should have

• Extensive knowledge in biostatistics and statistical programming to perform advanced data management and statistical analysis using SAS, STATA, R or equivalent software (essential).
• Several years of work experience with applied biostatistics in epidemiology or similar areas in the medical field (essential).
• Experience of working with large databases, such as the Nordic national health or quality of care registers (essential).
• Ability to initiate, conduct, and publish successful research projects, evidenced by a track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals in the medical area (essential).
• Knowledge of reproductive, maternal and perinatal health (desirable).
• Strong presentation skills (desirable).

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of reproductive epidemiology which is a young and rapidly growing group at the Clinical Epidemiology Division and includes 30 professionals, including researchers, postdocs and PhD-students. Our research focuses on risk factors and interventions during pregnancy, childbirth and the neonatal period as well as outcomes for mother and infant. We have a strong collaboration with clinical departments, including paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and other national and international research groups as well as other organizations like the World Health Organisation (WHO). The group has extensive experience in research in perinatal outcomes using advanced methods in biostatistics and clinical epidemiology.
