Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The newly stablished lab on “Protein Dynamics and Cancer” strives to contribute to biomedical research integrating simulations and experiments at different scales. Our goal is to understand the structural and conformational mechanisms of cancer and disease mutations. We aim to recruit a team of passionate scientists at the cross-roads of structural and computational biology, with a genuine interest in medicine and human diseases. Our research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaboration with experimentalists in other departments and other national and international groups. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the Department of Oncology-Pathology in about 30 research groups with cancer research profiles spanning from very basic to translational and clinical research.

Your mission

Your main role will be to perform a broad range of multiscale computational analyses of potential cancer targets. As a more senior member of a new and growing research group, you will have the chance to play a bigger leadership role and mentor MSc and internship students, while also benefiting from direct supervision and collaboration with a young PI. You will have the opportunity to work with significant freedom and independence within an interdisciplinary as well as an international setting, participating in the setting up of a new lab.

This is position for two years, with a possibility of prolongation.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in structural bioinformatics to join a new and growing research team dedicated to understand the effects of cancer mutations from a structural and dynamical perspective. The candidate is expected to participate in collaborative efforts to develop a workflow for multiscale screening of cancer mutations, integrating and developing different coarse-grained and atomistic simulation methods.

Advanced knowledge in structural bioinformatics and proven experience with molecular simulation tools (GROMACS, CHARMM, etc) and/or multiscale and coarse-grained approaches is a prerequisite. The applicant must be well acquainted with programming & scripting languages common in the biomolecular simulation field. Previous experience with protein simulations, knowledge of complimentary structural analysis techniques (Network Analysis, PCA, etc) and additional molecular modelling methods (molecular docking, virtual screening, etc) will be highly valued.

Fluency in English, a high level of organizational and communication skills, as well as an ability to work independently, is mandatory. The candidate is also expected to take a strong lead in managing project(s), contribute to writing manuscripts and grants and mentor junior members of the team.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Solna Campus

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

Welcome to apply May 30th at the latest.

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
