Karolinska Microscopic Imaging in Thrombosis & Hemostasis - KARMITH Core Facility is located at
BioClinicum, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna. The purpose of the KARMITH Core Facility is to
provide imaging service using state of the art technology primary in the field of thrombosis and
hemostasis and cardiovascular research but also to potential users from other research fields.
The Core Facility is under the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK) which carries
outboth preclinical and clinical research within numerous fields.

Environment

The KARMITH is headed by associate professor Jovan Antovic MD, PhD and position is placed in the
Clinical Chemistry & Coagulation group at MMK with him as a project leader. The main focuses of the
group are global hemostasis assays and imaging techniques in the investigation of hemostasis disorders - hemophilia, von Willebrand disease and thrombophilia.

Area of responsibility/description of the work

The KARMITH team mainly works in the area of confocal microscopy. The work includes planning,
coordination and interaction with customers on their specific projects, as well as laboratory and
analytical work. We are looking for a positive, flexible and pedagogical person. The position also include own research work.
The areas to be covered by the candidate are
1. To examine secondary hemostasis using the global hemostasis assays
2. To examine the fibrin clot architecture and fibrin network structure by confocal and scanning
electron microscopy
3. To examine fibrin-clot bound microparticles using confocal and scanning electron microscopy
Hemostasis/inflammation disturbance in Covid-19 would be a significant part of laboratory activities
during following months.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

We are interested in candidates with strong background in hemostasis/vascular biology and basic
research. Applicants are required to have completed a PhD degree in a field related to the position such as molecular biology, biochemistry or biomedicine. Documented experience in fluorescent/confocal microscopy and image analysis is a prerequisite. Further requirements are:

  • Documented experience in hemostasis/vascular biology research
  • Basic knowledge of global hemostasis assays will be considered a distinct advantage
  • Documented ability to write scientific articles and a track record of publications in international refereed journals is required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in very diverse fields, including clinical staff, and the ability to document work.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement, knowledge of Swedish is not necessary but will be considered advantageous.
  • If you have work in a core facility earlier it will be advantageous. [Additional requirements are stipulated in the required qualification for the position in question.]
