Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för medicin, Huddinge
The department of Medicine, Huddinge conducts graduate and post-graduate education, as well as research, within a wide range of the medical field, covering all internal medicine specialties, infectious diseases, and dermatology. The department consists of seven units with nearly 60 research groups, including three research centers. Our ambition is to be the leading department for medical research and education.

Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine at the Department of Medicine Huddinge
The Cell and Gene Therapy Group (CGTG) at the Department of Medicine, Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) is announcing a postdoctoral researcher position in Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells at Karolinska Institutet within the research fields of Immunology, Cancer Immunotherapy, and Gene Therapy.

Research group
The Cell and Gene Therapy Group is a multidisciplinary research group with 19 members, including senior scientists, Ph.D. students, technical and biomedical lab staff, and administration at ANA Futura, Campus Flemingsberg, in a translational research environment. This includes research groups involved in hematology, immunology, and cell therapy. The CGTG has internationally recognized leadership in clinical-grade, current good manufacturing practice (cGMP)-compatible manufacturing of cellular and gene therapy applications. We have access to a GMP facility capable of generating clinical-grade cellular and gene therapy products. Furthermore, the CGTG has been involved in a large number of clinical trials, including the first gene therapy clinical trial in Sweden as well as the first Swedish clinical trials assessing the safety of both patient and donor-derived ex vivo expanded NK cells in patients with various malignancies.

Description of the project
The research project will be pre-clinical translational research in cancer immunotherapy focusing on development of gene editing based therapies.

The aim of this project is to elucidate the impact of different chimeric proteins and mutants thereof to understand the role of tonic signaling during hematopoiesis and effector cell differentiation.

The researcher will use their strong knowledge and experience in stem cell biology, cell model development and CRISPR technology to work on in vitro validation aspects of a therapeutic gene editing project. This includes culture and differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells and carrying out gene editing as well as lentiviral gene modification to validate target hypotheses.

Key entry requirements and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated, structured and scientifically driven researcher with a Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Cell Biology or Hematopoiesis, ideally with proven skills in cellular immunology and/or hematopoiesis research. Excellent proficiency in English, both oral and written is required. Applicants should have a strong track record of scientific accomplishment and publications in the advancement of new therapeutic concepts.

The position requires extensive experience in pluripotent stem cell cultures and iPSC reprogramming is a strong merit. Furthermore, experience with multiparameter flow cytometry cell sorting, cell culture, and genome editing is meriting. Experience with CRISPR gene editing and NGS library prep, expertise with liquid handling automation technologies and experience in setting up cell based pharmacological assays are highly desirable. In addition, we believe that the successful candidate will have a strong background in immunology or hematopoiesis.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to present results clearly, work co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, with strong attention to detail are also essential. We will accord special weight to academic skills, particularly demonstrated excellence in research. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.

We are looking for a researcher who has a strong work ethic, passion for solving difficult questions and challenges with the ability to design, plan, perform, and interpret original experiments in an independent and innovative environment. The candidates should be forward thinking, have high integrity and be open to the multicultural setting they are going to be working in.

Your profile
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
