Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Our research group (PI: Eduardo J Villablanca) provides a unique opportunity to work in the field of mucosal immunology and regenerative medicine particularly in the context of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and how boosting regeneration could be exploited as a novel therapeutic opportunity for IBD. We offer a highly interactive and innovative research platform to work at the interface using both preclinical models and clinical samples using cutting edge technologies such as patient derived organoids, drug screening, single cell and spatial transcriptomics profiling. Here, you get the opportunity to contribute to the high-quality research at an truly international environment.

Your mission

One of the main goals of Villablanca Lab is to better understand the damage induced cues at the intestinal barrier and how to exploit them for tissue repair with specific emphasis on promoting intestinal regeneration for diseases such as IBD and the same time minimize the risk of tumorigenesis. The project will be performed in close collaboration with Dr. Michael Sundstrom group (at Center for Molecular Medicine, KI) as a part of the SGC -KI. Dr. Villablanca is an internationally recognized leader in the field of Mucosal Immunology at intestinal barrier. The candidate will be part of a research program that integrate experimental models, patient material, ex-vivo patient derived organoids and cutting-edge technologies (spatial and single cell transcriptomics) to understand how intestinal homeostasis is maintained and how breakdown in these processes might lead to IBD or CRC.

Your profile

The applicant should have a PhD equivalent to Swedish doctoral degree in the field of Regenerative and/or Cancer Biology. The candidate should also have a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant post-doctoral experience carrying out high quality research with specific emphasis on intestinal regeneration and tumorigenesis. The candidate must have extensive experience in using intestinal organoid models from both mice and humans as well as using in vivo experimental models of tissue regeneration and tumorigenesis. Experience in dissection, isolation and in vitro culture of intestinal epithelial cells, immune cells, stromal cells and co-culturing of multiple cell types from mucosal tissues is a requirement as well as having experience with molecular biology such as experience in cloning, expression of genes not only in primary cell lines, but also in organoids. Experience in gene manipulation methods such as CRISPR/Cas9 in organoids would be an added advantage. Since the projects involve unbiased transcriptomics approaches, the candidate must have experience in performing 10X single cell RNAseq and spatial transcriptomics approaches. As work will be done involving a team of multidisciplinary scientists, excellent communication skills are essential and proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in both oral and written English is necessary. Documented ability to analyze and present results orally and written is important as well as the ability to generate new ideas and innovate. It is expected that the candidate would contribute towards supervision of students and other researchers, with ambitions to become a primary supervisor and develop a related independent line of research by obtaining external long-term funding.

A person is eligible to be appointed Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after the defense of his or her doctoral thesis.
