Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

At the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Solna, we perform research and education in infectious diseases in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research is translational, and involves clinical, epidemiological and experimental research in areas such as sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis, covid-19, HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, antibiotic resistance, and healthcare associated infections.

Recently we have established a unique research database that consists of clinical data from electronic health records during the last 10 years in Region Stockholm (>18 million health care episodes). This enables us to perform large scale epidemiological studies on infectious diseases and adverse events.

The current project aims to develop and implement decision support systems for antibiotic usage in patients at hospitals, to improve correct treatment in severely ill patients and at the same time reduce unnecessary antibiotic therapy. The project is an international collaboration between academia and industry, and is part of a European initiative for personalized medicine.

As a postdoctoral researcher you will perform epidemiological research with a focus on antibiotic usage and outcomes, including antibiotic stewardship and an innovative personalized decision support system for antibiotic treatment. Analyses involve methods to study both structured data and free text.

You will work in collaboration with other members of the research group which consists of Swedish and international researchers with backgrounds in epidemiology, infectious diseases and informatics. There are opportunities for initiation of your own research projects and to supervise e.g. master students.
