Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer.

We now announce an opportunity to join the research group of Associate Professor Georgios A. Sotiriou as a research assistant in flame nanoparticle synthesis. The lab has extensive experience in the flame synthesis of nanoparticles and assembly of devices with focus on superior performance. The lab’s mission is to develop nanobiomaterials, tools and methods for medicine using engineering sciences. The research in this lab is highly multidisciplinary combining expertise from material engineering, bioengineering and health sciences. This allows for the design of bionanomaterials that exhibit the desired functionality in applications ranging from diagnostics (biosensors) to therapeutic interventions.

The aim of this project is to utilize flame spray pyrolysis for the production of nanomaterials with applications in diagnostic (bioimaging, sensor assays) and therapeutic interventions (smart surfaces and/or nanoparticles as drug carriers).

For more information about the research see the KI webpage of the Principal Investigator (PI), Associate Professor Dr. Georgios A. Sotiriou http://ki.se/en/people/geosot and the research group’s website: https://sotirioulab.org

Your mission

The research assistant is expected to work on flame nanoparticle synthesis and participate in the lab research environment. This includes lab work, courses, seminars, and presentation of results at meetings. Other responsibilities include development of methodology and work routines, supervision of students, literature review, statistical analysis, adhering to the lab manual policies and drafting scientific manuscripts.

Your profile

The candidate should have degrees (BSc and MSc) in Material Science and Engineering with extensive experience in synthesis of nanoparticles by flame spray pyrolysis, Furthermore, skills including material characterization by X-ray diffraction, Raman, FTIR and UVvis spectroscopy, electron microscopy is required. Experience in flame spray synthesis of nanomaterials is required. Further experience in spray processes is advantageous. Experience with biological experiments is not required.
