Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Division
Birgitta Henriques Normark and her group study host interactions of the major human pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Duties
We are looking for a short time temporary position to work primarily on DNA isolation from different pneumococcal strains, as well as pneumococcal sample management. Technologies include work on pneumococci such as growth and DNA preparation, bacterial cell culture in BSL2, genomic DNA extraction and DNA purification, gel electrophoresis, library preparation for whole genome sequencing, maintaining a lab notebook with a thorough, organized and timely summary of results, as well as oral and written communication of results and progression.

Entry requirements
The successful candidate has a degree in Biotechnologies, a PhD on pneumococci obtained in the last two years and relevant experience in academic research in microbiology. We are looking for someone who has an understanding of microbiology theory and previous laboratory experience of working with bacteria especially of pneumococci in a BSL2 research laboratory and of preparing pneumococcal DNA. The applicant should also be precise and organized in work. Successful applicants must have some knowledge of laboratory management, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group, have social skills, and have good English and Swedish communication skills.
