The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group
The Petter Brodin group at Science for Life Laboratory and Women’s and Children’s Health is a multi-disciplinary research group developing and applying Systems-level tools to study human immune system. The group is affiliated with the National Mass cytometry facility and multiple high-dimensional cytometry methods, plasma protein analyses, and sequencing-based methodologies are commonly used.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student
The successful candidate must have experience of high dimensional Mass cytometry data analysis, and gene expression analyses using custom pipelines written in python and/or R. Also, analyses of clinical data, high-dimensional plasma protein data analysis as well as analysis is another integral part of the project and experience of this will be important. To be competitive the candidate must have experience in working with high-dimensional, systems-immunology type of datasets, preferably using human samples. The student will analyze existing datasets using multiomics factor analyses and other integrative methods so that experience with such methods are important. The theme of the analysis is to use the methods above to understand immune system function and composition in health and disease. One focus is on the developing immune system early in life (Olin et al, Cell 2018), and in different groups of patients with immune system dysregulation. The central theme for the student is to explore optimal methods for how to interpret human immune systems and their function using high-dimensional, multiomics datasets.

  1. have been awarded a second-cycle/advanced/master qualification (i.e. master degree) or
  2. have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the advanced/second-cycle/master level, or
  3. have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.*

B) Specific eligibility requirement

You meet the specific eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:

- Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

Skills and personal qualities
Our laboratory is highly collaborative with experts in different areas of experimental and computational immunology. It is thus essential for the successful candidate to be able to collaborate with people of different background and knowledge. It is also essential that the successful candidate to have strong expertise in computational biology, knowledge of Mass cytometry, plasma proteomics and mRNA-sequencing data analysis pipelines and some knowledge of integrative data analyses. Excellent skills in writing and speaking English is important, an interest in communicating science is a benefit.

Terms and conditions
The doctoral student will be employed on a doctoral studentship maximum 4 years full-time.
