Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

You are welcome to join a successful genuinely translational research group at KI. In a well-established network of cardiovascular research our group is focused on identification of disease mechanisms leading to atherosclerosis especially in patients with diabetes, and development of cardioprotective strategies based on novel targets in acute myocardial infarction. The clinical importance of these mechanisms are subsequently investigated in well-defined patient cohorts with coronary artery disease, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

Your mission

The Cardiology Unit at Department of Medicine, Solna has a postdoc position in cardiovascular research open for a highly motivated scientist. The project is focused on problems related to endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications especially in diabetes. Studies will investigate molecular mechanisms driving the development of endothelial injury and pro-atherosclerotic changes in diabetes. Of particular interest are studies exploring the interaction between red blood cells and endothelial cells, including expression of protein, transcriptomes and non-coding RNA. Studies are mainly performed in isolated cell systems and vascular preparations.
The appointment will be for two years with a possible extension for up to two additional years.

Your profile

Applicants should have a strong research background in experimental cardiovascular research including cardiovascular biology and/or molecular/cellular biology documented by publications in studies related to vascular biology. The applicant should have experience from cell culture, transfection, Western blotting, qPCR, and immunohistochemistry. Working experience with cloning and/or in vitro and in vivo animal models will be considered as additional merits. Previous postdoc education is a strong merit. We welcome a creative, hardworking and enthusiastic team-player to our group. The candidate is expected to take part in experimental design, experimentation, presentation and preparation of publications. Personal suitability and scientific expertise is highly valued. The applicant must be proficient in English, both spoken and written.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of professor John Pernow within the Cardiology unit.  The unit conducts translational and clinical research in a wide area of cardiovascular disease of internationally high standard. The focus of the research group is to explore the mechanisms underlying development of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis caused by cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes and hypercholesterolemia as well as development of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in experimental models and in clinical investigations.
