The Center for Infectious Medicine
The position is affiliated to the Department of Medicine / Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), at the Huddinge campus of Karolinska institutet. The Department of Medicine consists of seven units, three research centers and about 70 research groups. The Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM) is one of the department's units located in the new research facilities ANA Futura. At CIM, advanced research is conducted on the human immune system, infectious diseases and the development of new related therapies.

Description of the work group/equivalent and its work/focus:
The position is at the interphase between the basic research group headed by Niklas Björkström, at the Center for Infectious Medicine, and the clinical research group headed by Annika Bergquist, at the Unit of Hepatology, Karolinska hospital, Huddinge. The Björkström´s group study tissue-resident lymphocytes, especially intrahepatic NK cells and their role in human liver disorders, using cutting edge techniques such as advanced flow cytometry. The Bergquist´s group performs surveillance and therapeutic clinical research studies on several liver disorders, especially primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). The two groups have several tight collaborative translational research projects of high quality within this framework of expertise.

Duties
The research coordinator will lead and coordinate several immune translational collaborative projects between the Björkström and Bergquist groups. These research projects will touch upon various areas of immunology and gastroenterology, from basic to more clinical projects related to liver diseases, including PSC and CCA. The research coordinator will plan and develop experimental strategies, analyze and interpret results, write scientific publications and research applications. The applicant will independently design and conduct research projects and develop new methods of immune investigations from patients material (blood, serum, brush cytology, liver biopsies, etcetera). The work also includes the coordination of large international research projects, the supervision of PhD students as well as the technical and scientific support of other people in the research groups.

Qualifications
To be eligible, the applicant must have a PhD in immunology or equivalent. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement. High impact publications and grants showing excellence and independent research capability are required. Merit is given to applicants who have previous experience of (i) work with human NK cells and liver disease, (ii) involvement in international collaborations, (iii) previous experience of research supervision, and (iv) previous postdoctoral level experience from a translational research environment with focus on immunology and liver diseases. In depth knowledge in immunology, flow cytometry and statistics are required. The applicant must be structured, careful, service-oriented, independent, flexible and able to work with several different tasks at the same time. The ability to cooperate and prioritize is required.
