Karolinska Institutet, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Background
The research at our lab The Section of Pharmacogenetics (see https://ki.se/en/fyfa/section-of-pharmacogenetics-mis-lab) at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology aims to understand the basis for liver diseases and to identify the genetic origin for differences between individuals in drug metabolism, toxicity and drug response. We, in collaboration with others, strive to understand repair of liver injury and to develop novel in vitro systems for predicting drug response and adverse drug reactions as well as to develop in vitro systems for liver disease and their treatment. The research is financed from e.g. ERC, Vinnova, The Swedish Cancer Foundation, EU (H2020) and The Swedish Research Council.

Duties
We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will work with an in vitro model for liver function and disease. The project focuses on use of complex multicellular 3D spheroid systems for identification of interventions of liver diseases like NAFLD, NASH and liver fibrosis. The work includes to produce the liver spheroids from cryopreserved cells, cultivation of these systems and evaluating the effects of different conditions and drugs on disease development and treatment and make conclusions regarding the mechanisms behind. The position is aimed for 2 years of employment (1+1).

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

Qualifications

The applicant should have a PhD degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, physiology or similar. The applicant is expected to have a good understanding of different laboratory techniques with focus on cell biology and molecular biology. Furthermore, good communication skills and good proficiency in spoken and written English are necessary.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
