Division and research group
The project will be carried out in Associate Professor Pauliina Damdimopoulou’s research laboratory at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology of Karolinska Institutet. Research and education at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology are focused on the many aspects of women’s reproductive health as well as fetal physiology and stem cell biology. Chemical health risk assessment will be performed in collaboration with Associate Professor Mattias Öberg at the Institute of Environmental Medicine.
Damdimopoulou laboratory is located at the Campus Flemingsberg and focuses on human ovarian biology and effects of toxic chemicals on fertility.
Duties
The successful candidate will work towards the national environmental quality objective; a non-toxic environment; within a Formas-funded project wherein combination effects of endocrine disruptive chemicals are studied. Effects of phthalate mixtures on female fertility will be assessed using various cell culture models as well as clinical human tissue samples. The project combines reproductive medicine, molecular biology and chemical health risk assessment. The project requires research visits to collaborator laboratories abroad.
The successful candidate will carry out cell line, primary cell and primary human tissue culture experiments, histological analyses, RNA-seq, statistical and bioinformatics data analysis, and participate in toxicological dose-response modelling. The candidate will prepare reports, manuscripts, presentations and maintain contacts with the collaborator laboratories, as well as participate in daily laboratory duties. The employment is ongoing for one year with possibility for prolongation.
Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in relevant life sciences, such as biology, molecular biology, biomedicine or toxicology.
We are looking for a person with solid background in i) primary cell culture, ii) gene expression analysis, iii) basic molecular biology methods (e.g. immunostainings, fluorescence microscopy, isolation and analysis of nucleic acids and proteins) iv) statistical data analysis, and v) dissemination of scientific data.
We consider the following as significant merits. Experience of:
The research environment is international, and the project involves tight collaboration with several other research groups and clinicians. Fluent spoken and written English is therefore a necessity, as well as good social skills.
