Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för cell- och molekylärbiologi

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology.

Division
Jonas Muhrs group is studying how stem cells are regulated in the brain and it's derived tumors. One main focus of the research is to understand how healthy stem cells are controlled to avoid excessive proliferation, but also how these regulatory mechanisms are circumvented in malignant cells. The Muhr group is addressing these questions at the gene regulatory and protein levels using mice and human cells as model systems.

Duties
The successful candidate will work together with members of the research group, and examine the role of core stem cell transcription factors in activating tumor suppressor responses in stem cells upon oncogenic insults. The work will include genome wide analyses of chromatin, transcription factor binding and gene expression as well as protein interaction and modification studies.

Entry requirements
We are currently looking for a person with experience in working with brain- and cancer stem cells. A successful candidate for this position has typically published, as first author, significant scientific articles relating to this area of research. The candidate we are looking for should be well experienced in performing functional studies in brain- and cancer stem cells and should have broad knowledge base in cell biology and molecular/protein biology. The person we are looking for should hold a PhD in neurobiology, cancer biology or equivalent.

Application process
The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
