Karolinska Institutet, Silberberg lab
The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, and 65 PhD students.
Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.
Division
The Silberberg lab investigates the neural circuits underlying sensory-motor functions in the basal ganglia. The research is based on a systems neuroscience approach to dissect the function of neural circuits and neuron subtypes in integrating sensory input, planning, and executing motor programs.
Duties
The research engineer will be responsible for performing experiments in transgenic rodents using optogenetics and in-vivo recordings in the various basal ganglia nuclei.
Entry requirements
The research engineer must have extensive experience of in vivo whole-cell recordings as well as optogenetic manipulation of neuron function. The research engineer must have experience in viral vector injections, surgery, and patch-clamp electrophysiology. A successful candidate will be a motivated researcher, interested in basic research. The researcher should also have excellent communication skills and fluent English.
