Karolinska Institutet,

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

Division

A position for a postdoctoral fellow is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jaakko Patrakka at Karolinska Institute (KI) / AstraZeneca (AZ) Integrated Cardio Metabolic Centre (ICMC), Stockholm, Sweden. ICMC represents a unique opportunity for academic researchers to collaborate with scientists from the pharmaceutical industry to make cutting edge science and discover the next generation of medicines. More information about ICMC can be found at http://ki.se/en/medh/integrated-cardio-metabolic-centre-icmc.

Duties

The focus of the project is to explore molecular mechanisms behind glomerular diseases, with special emphasis on diabetic nephropathy. The ultimate goal is, in collaboration with AstraZeneca, to identify novel therapeutical targets and to develop new pharmaceutical compounds to treat diabetic nephropathy. We perform high throughput molecular profiling of human kidney biopsies and use primarily mouse and cell culture as experimental models.

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants who have a thorough training in molecular and cell biology. Previous experience with mouse work is an advantage. Candidates should have excellent laboratory and organizational skills, be keen to advance the project and have a proven publication record. The selected candidate will work as part of a team, in close collaboration with other postdocs and graduate students.
