The laboratory of Professor Thomas Helleday provides an excellent translational and scientific environment. The multidisciplinary research group is located at Science for Life Laboratory and consists of Ph.D. students, postdocs, and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced laboratory technician for the Helleday group. Your main task will be to plan and perform in vitro cell culture experiments in the laboratory. Your work will be highly varied and will include several molecular biology techniques including cell culturing, PCR, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, immunohistology staining techniques as well as performing various screening assays. You will also be responsible for preparing and distributing a lab duty rotation schedule for lab active personnel.

In more detail, you will contribute to a further understanding of the role of DNA repair and metabolisms proteins in cancer and characterize small molecules inhibiting these pathways and proteins involved using both biochemical and cellular assays. To support clinical findings and development we need to further investigate biomarkers, combination treatments, and potential resistance mechanisms to obtain a deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of the compounds.

Your profile

The following qualifications are required:

  • A MSc in Cell or/and Molecular Biology or Biotechnology.
  • Previous documented laboratory experience.
  • Previous documented experience establishing disease models within oncology
  • Previous documented experience with cell work, including handling and culturing of various cells including blood and solid cancer cells.
  • Previous documented experience with standard cellular techniques, such as cellular viability/survival and clonogenic assays and viral transfection techniques.
  • Previous documented experience with molecular biology techniques, eg qPCR, cloning, protein purification, cellular target engagement analysis using CETSA, and Western blotting is a requirement.
  • Previous documented experience with immunohistology methods and confocal microscopy is a requirement.
  • Previous documented experiences of techniques such as DARTS and cell synergy experiments are merit.
  • Previous documented experience of running enzymatic activity assays is a merit.
  • You need to be able to work in an organized and timely manner and to have experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • You need to have excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • You need to have good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and GraphPad Prism.
