Karolinska Institutet, Department of Oncology-Pathology, The Thomas Helleday Laboratory
Numerous novel exciting treatments have been invented within the laboratory of Professor Thomas Helleday, such as PARP inhibitor treatment for BRCA mutated cancers (Bryant et al., Nature 2005), which is now approved as first-line treatment across the world, OGG1 inhibitors for inflammatory diseases (Visnes et al., Science 2018) or the MTHFD1/2 inhibitors for cancer (Bonagas et al., Nature Cancer 2022) that are entering clinical trials this year. The research group provides an excellent translational and scientific environment and is located at the Science for Life Laboratory. The multidisciplinary group consists of PhD students, postdocs and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry.
The group is hosted within the Department of Oncology-Pathology conducting basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. The Helleday group is working closely with clinicians, and run clinical trials, to make an impact for patients.
