Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Olofsson lab studies peripheral nerve regulation of inflammation. More information is available at https://ki.se/en/meds/research-group-peder-olofsson.

Discoveries in neuroscience and immunology have revealed that interactions between peripheral nerves and immune cells regulate inflammation. While the insights are already used in clinical trials, the mechanisms are not fully understood.

Our work has contributed to an improved understanding of the neuro-immune crosstalk in inflammation, for example how peripheral nerves regulate inflammation and how acetylcholine-producing T cells control vascular function and anti-microbial defense.

We work in a highly ambitious and friendly environment that promotes high-quality science and supports career advancement.

The lab is well-equipped for immunobiology research with easy access to advanced imaging, cell sorting, and animal work platforms. We also have strong national and international collaborations and are part of multiple consortia within Sweden, the European Union, and North America.

Your mission

The primary objective of this post-doctoral position is to investigate the interactions between peripheral nerves and immune cells in experimental inflammation. You will work both independently and collaboratively with other lab members, utilizing systems for inducible gain- or loss-of-function of peripheral nerves and immune cells to explore neuro-immune crosstalk.

We strive to provide opportunities for you to develop your own project ideas within this subject area and build a strong foundation for a career in science. Accordingly, presentations of the work at international scientific conferences and in well-respected journals are strongly encouraged.

Your profile

Requirements include

  • a PhD in a relevant subject area, for example neuroscience or immunology.
  • experience with mouse models and laboratory experiments.
  • an interest for mechanisms of neuro-immune crosstalk.

It is particularly meriting that the applicant

  • is self-motivated, creative, and enjoys problem-solving and team-work.
  • has experience of optogenetics, viral vectors, experimental inflammation in vivo and/or
  • has experience with electrophysiology, neuronal tracing, animal surgery and/or
  • is skilled in common methodology such as flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and/or confocal microscopy.
  • is committed to high-quality science.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
