Division

The role is based in the Paediatric Oncology and Paediatric Surgery division at the Department of Women's and Children's Health. The successful candidate will conduct experimental research to reveal basic mechanisms of skeletal growth disorders arising from childhood cancer treatments, within the Newton lab (https://ki.se/en/kbh/skeletal-development). This position is aimed at applying state-of-the-art basic research tools and knowledge to perform relevant pre-clinical research.

Duties

  • Support our collaborative research environment and guide colleagues with technical and operational aspects of scientific research
  • Develop and implement research projects in conjunction with PI
  • Independently design, conduct, and execute experiments
  • Identify methodological problems in research protocols and devise strategies to overcome them
  • Perform statistical analyses
  • Actively participate in collaborative lab meetings
  • Actively follow and implement the scientific literature in your own work
  • Write and edit manuscripts
  • Help manage laboratory needs (such as ordering, training and compliance)
  • Work towards research independence. Prepare proposals to submit and obtain funding from external granting agencies

The successful candidate will apply protocols including in vivo modelling of radiotherapy, maintain a colony of mice, flow cytometry, process and analyse tissue samples, and work with nanoparticles. Methodologies include size exclusion chromatography, super-resolution microscopy, ex vivo organ culture, histological and histochemical staining, immunofluoresence, in situ hybridization (RNAscope), transmission electron microscopy and other emerging molecular biology technologies, as applicable.

Entry requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a curious mind who is passionate about furthering human knowledge and health through scientific research. You must be highly motivated and detail-oriented.

The successful candidate should:

  • hold a PhD in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or a very closely-related discipline
  • be structured and responsible
  • have an inquisitive mentality
  • enjoy working as part of a team
  • be fluent in written and spoken English
  • have expertise in standard techniques of molecular biology and cell biology

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: BioClinicum J9.30 and Biomedicum A4, Solna campus.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis.

  • A personal letter outlining your reasons for applying
