The position is based at unit of Molecular Neurobiology (MBB), at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. The Research Specialist position will be at the https://ki.se/en/mbb/patrik-ernfors-group. The Ernfors research group is interested in the neuronal organization of the ascending and descending pain pathways and the molecular alterations underlying sensitization during chronic pain. We are focused on mouse genetics, behavioral tests for pain and the relation between molecularly defined cell types and chromatin topology and pain and pain states, with the aim to provide insights which open for new analgesic strategies. Our research group has performed single nuclei/cell RNA-Seq and identified several cell states within the neuronal lineage in development and disease. Our previous findings (for example Kupari et al., 2021 Nat Comm; Abdo et al., 2019 Science) have provided insights into the coding of nociception and mechanisms underlying somatic sensation.
We have ongoing several projects with single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics. The successful candidates will be integrated in a multidisciplinary team comprising computational, molecular and cellular biologists.
We are looking for highly motivated, driven, inquisitive, enthusiastic persons interested in our area of research, and ready to explore new avenues in science. The candidates should have a collaborative approach to research, good communication skills and working productively in a team and contributing to a good social environment in the laboratory. A dynamic mind with an ability to move between projects and questions and an ability to complete and deliver results is critical. The applicants must have a PhD degree in bioinformatics and computational biology or related, and strong programming skills (R and/or Python and/or others), UNIX and LINUX systems knowledge, familiarity with data science a big data. A strong track record in single cell omics in neuroscience, RNA splicing and chromatin regulation will be highly valued.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
A creative and inspiring environment full of expertise and curiosity. Our research group is based at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB), at the Karolinska Institutet (KI), Stockholm, Sweden, within the Unit of Molecular Neurobiology. The Unit of Molecular Neurobiology has presently seven research groups, focused on several aspects of development, stem cell biology, neuroscience and cancer, providing a unique critical mass and expertise, and vibrant scientific environment.
