Through a collaboration between clinical and preclinical research groups, you will be participating in a atmosphere of translational medical research. Our ambition is to better understand how the brain synchronizes all its sensory inputs. Being part of an international setting you will focus on investigating how this may be achieved by looking at the eye and its movements.
The project entails implementing a wide set of methodologies related to eye movement analysis. A substantial part will focus on trials using the lamprey animal model. This part of the project will entail microdissections, electrophysiological recordings, anatomical tracing procedures, and behavioural trials involving eye tracking and locomotion analysis. Trials involving healthy human participants will be carried out in parallel. Here, you will use eye tracking equipment and a mechanized sled to measure how the eyes move during visual- and self-generated movements.
The applicant is expected to be familiar with gaze-stabilizing eye movements and their multisensory control. Experience with the lamprey animal model and its visual and vestibular systems is a requirement as the trials require delicate surgical and electrophysiological interventions. Experience in implementing machine learning for motion tracking is a merit (e.g. DeepLabCut). The applicant should also be interesting in performing translational research and carry out clinical procedures. Previous experience with eye-tracking is desired (in human or animal trials). The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in a biological field.
Eligibility requirements
These scholarships aim to provide students at the undergraduate or graduate level with early practical experience of research work, in order to strengthen the link between education and research and encourage future studies at the doctoral level.
The scholarships can be granted either for studies in an existing course or for a shorter period of practical research experience (documented in an individual study plan/research plan) for admitted students.
The scholarships may be granted only to persons who have been admitted (and registered) to undergraduate or graduate level.
