Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

Cardiometabolic disease and associated renal dysfunction are major health problems, affecting more than 1.5 billion people worldwide. Our Research Team aims at understanding underlying mechanisms contributing to the development and progression of the disease and find novel dietary and pharmacological therapeutic approaches. In particular, we investigate the role of abnormal NADPH oxidase and mitochondrial function and development of oxidative stress coupled with nitric oxide deficiency.

Your mission

The research team has developed and accesses a broad, novel and advanced methodological platform to investigate novel signaling pathways in reno-cardio-metabolic disease. In our translational studies we combine unique experimental models with clinical studies in healthy subjects and patients with the disease, which will result in novel mechanistic insights and ability to rapidly translate knowledge into practice. Our projects are at the forefront of research related to reactive oxygen and nitrogen species regulation in health and disease, and focus on potential therapeutic actions of bioactive nitrogen oxide species. As a researcher in our team you will have access to a broad and comprehensive research platform, and experience a translational experimental approach.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Specifically, we are looking for a postdoc who has extensive knowledge in vascular research and hands-on knowledge on how to perform isolated and perfused vessel studies as well wire-myography. The postdoc will have a key role in our ex vivo vascular experiments, by designing and executing the studies and by analyzing as well as communicating the findings. Previous experience in how to perform in vivo animal studies in rats and mice to evaluate blood pressure (e.g. telemetry and tail-cuff systems), kidney function (e.g. FITC-Inulin technique) and metabolic functions (e.g. metabolism cages, glucose/insulin tolerance tests, DEXA body scan) is desirable. In addition, basic laboratory skills/knowledge on how to perform and analyze e.g. mRNA and protein mRNA and protein analysis) are expected.
