Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Division

The division of Pediatric Oncology in Karolinska Institutet is a constellation of interdisciplinary research groups that are conducting laboratory, clinical, survivorship and healthcare research with the common goal to improve the survival, quality of life, care and treatment of children and adolescents with cancer or hematological diseases. The NORDFERTIL Research Lab Stockholm is part of the division of Pediatric Oncology and located in the new research labs at BioClinicum, Solna. The main research focus of this groups is related to reproductive biology, with special interest in fertility preservation and effect of gonadotoxic therapies.

Duties

We are looking for two temporary positions to work primarily on histological, cell culture as well as molecular biology methods related to human gonadal development in humans. The research projects will be related to the ongoing fertility preservation project NORDFERTIL and therefore include basic biological aspects with a direct connection to the clinics. Effects on human gonadal physiology of currently used anti-cancer treatment protocols as well as those planned for future use and currently tested in animal models, will be explored with basic and cutting-edge methodologies, such as:

  • Basic and cutting-edge culture methods using human and animal tissue or cells samples (e.g., microfluidics, organoids, organ-on-chip assays).
  • Basic and cutting-edge methods for protein detection (e.g., immunohistochemistry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting).
  • Basic and cutting-edge methods in molecular biology (e.g., single cell and bulk RNA sequencing).

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence in the field of biological sciences or medicine with a special focus of expertise in reproductive biology.. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The successful candidates will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills as well as strong experience in reproductive biology, cell culture models, molecular biology, and gonadal physiology in humans.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
