Do you know that some chemicals that we are exposed to on daily basis can have a profound effect on our hormonal system resulting in adverse effects on our development, metabolism, thyroid system, neural system and reproduction? Some of these effects are extremely hard to detect with simple in vitro techniques. European Commission har recognized this problem, and in 2019 funded several 5-year projects with the mission to develop screening strategies capable of detecting endocrine disrupting activities of chemicals acting through a variety of mechanisms. You will be working on EU Horizon 2020 project GOLIATH “Beating Goliath: Generation of novel, integrated and internationally harmonized approaches for testing metabolism disrupting compounds” (2019-2023), which is aiming to develop and evaluate in vitro and in silico methods for identification of endocrine disrupting chemicals contributing to metabolic disorders. Your main task will be to test the effects of selected chemicals on adipocyte differentiation and function. You will be in charge of the mesenchymal stem cell culture, cell-based experiments with high content analysis readouts and gene expression analysis. You will need to keep a good track of your work in electronic lab notebook, analyze data in GraphpadPrism software as well as write protocols and scientific reports of accomplished work.
Eligible persons to be employed as Research Assistant is a person who has a master degree in Toxicology or Pharmacology.
We are looking for a candidate who has strong experience in handling mesenchymal stem cells, adipocytes and cell-based screening methods for compounds. Experience with endocrine disrupting chemicals and quantification of adipogenic differentiation is a plus.
A candidate needs to have experience and good understanding of the statistical methods used in in vitro experiments and good command of Microsoft Excel and GraphpadPrism softwares.
