Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

A postdoc position on the role of 3D genome organization in prostate cancer is immediately available in the Bienko-Crosetto lab for Quantitative Genome Biology at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm.

As a postdoc, you will develop and lead an exciting project aimed at exploring how the higher-order genome architecture changes moving from normal tissue to in situ lesions to invasive tumor areas, in patient-derived prostate cancer samples.

You will work in a dynamic research environment focused on basic genome biology, molecular methods development and oncogenomics (https://bienkocrosettolabs.org/). At SciLifeLab and Karolinska Institutet, you will have the opportunity to network with scientists and clinicians from many diverse fields and backgrounds, fostering your creativity and shaping your project from a non-conventional perspective.

Your mission

You will use Hi-C and other well-established genome-wide methods (ATAC-seq, RNA-seq) and apply them to multiple regions of fresh-frozen prostate cancer samples that are already available in our lab.

In parallel, you will apply spatial transcriptomics and AI-based image analysis techniques to differentiate between normal prostate tissue, in situ carcinoma regions and invasive tumor areas, and then examine how the 3D genome and genome-wide accessibility/transcriptome (co-)vary across these regions.

Your ultimate goal will be to develop an integrated model of how the (epi)genome is rewired during the process of tumorigenesis in the prostate and contribute to the identification of novel disease biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.

Your profile

Are you experienced in Hi-C or other epigenomic techniques and are currently working in the field of genome organization? Are you interested in bringing your knowledge on genome organization to the cancer biology field? Do you want to work in a highly inter-disciplinary environment, working together with clinicians, biologists and data analysts to tackle complex biomedical problems? Then you are the right person!

You are not expected to know how to code or how to analyze complex datasets, but you are definitely expected to work in synergy with experts in bioinformatics and data science on a daily basis.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
