Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The research group

Come and join our artificial spider silk team! We are currently five PhD students, three technicians, six post docs, two assistant professors, and two professors in the group. We have developed the first biomimetic spinning method for production of artificial spider silk fibers, and now we aim to spin artificial silk fibers that match the native silk in terms of mechanical properties in a project that is financed by an ERC Consolidator grant (2019-2023). We have recently published several articles in high ranked journals (Andersson et al. Nat Chem Biol. 2017; Kronqvist et al. Nat Commun. 2017; Rising&Johansson. Nat Chem Biol. 2015). The research group is located at Karolinska Institutet, campus Flemingsberg and at SLU in Uppsala, work can also occur in Solna. We now want to expand the group with a 1 year Lab technician position.

Your mission

You are expected to have a large interest in protein biochemistry and have experience in the techniques commonly used in the lab (cloning, recombinant expression in bacterial hosts, protein purification, analyses using various common methods like western blots and SDS PAGE). The work includes routine work in protein production, purification and characterization. Isolation of DNA and RNA may also be part of the duties. You may also have administrative duties. We work in collaboration with other groups and very interdisciplinary, which demands the applicant to be independent, have a positive attitude and be collaborative.

Your profile

You should have a bachelor or master degree in biomedicine, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, chemistry, or similar topic, and/or experience of experimental protein biochemistry work. Practical experience of producing aggregation prone proteins in E.coli and of purification of these proteins by affinity chromatography are meritorious. You are expected to be self-motivated, organized and structured, enjoy academic lab work and have a positive attitude. Emphasis will be put on personal skills in the evaluation process. Ability to speak and write excellent English is a requirement.
