At Aging Research Center (ARC) we conduct research with focus on older people and aging. ARC, within the Department of NVS is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing psychology, sociology, and various branches of medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics).
Major research foci in the psychology section at ARC concern: (a) sources of individual differences in cognitive functioning among older adults; (b) the neural underpinnings of age-related differences in cognition, as assessed using structural and functional MRI; (c) PET research on the role of dopamine functions in cognitive aging; and (d) intervention research examining cognitive and brain plasticity in old age.
ARC is now opening a post doc position for two years with planned start in March 2020.
COBRA
The present post is based on the Cognition, Brain, and Aging (COBRA) project, in which data collection takes place at Umeå University. COBRA examines the relationship of the neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) and other brain parameters (i.e., grey- and white matter volumes, white-matter microstructure, functional activation patterns during rest and task performance, perfusion) to cognitive performance and change in aging, with a chief focus on longitudinal trajectories of DA availability and how those map onto corresponding cognitive paths.
A major task for candidate will be to contribute to the research activities within COBRA, conceptually as well as methodologically. In addition, there are possibilities to initiate individual research projects, based on the candidate´s interests.
We are looking for you who have a strong track record in terms of publications. Research experience regarding different brain imaging modalities is required. In particular, documented skills in integrating MRI data (e.g., functional connectivity, white-matter microstructure) and PET data (i.e., dopamine binding) as they relate to cognition weigh heavily in the recruitment process.
A person is eligible to be appointed as a post doc if he or she has been awarded a doctoral degree or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. We stress research expertise when assessing applicants. We conduct research in an multicultural environment and collaborative skills are important as well as good knowledge in English.
