Vid Institutionen för molekylär medicin och kirurgi (MMK) bedriver vi preklinisk och klinisk forskning inom ett stort antal områden. Till institutionen hör ca 450 forskare, forskarstuderande, lärare samt teknisk och administrativ personal och för närvarande har vi ca 150 doktorander. Institutionen bedriver grundutbildning inom både läkarprogrammet, sjukgymnastprogrammet, biomedicinprogrammet och biomedicinska analytikerprogrammet.

Division
We invite applications for a part time position (25%) as technician in the laboratory of Professor Ulf Hedin. The research group belongs to the Department of Molecular Medicine and the Cardiovascular Theme at BioClinicum, Karolinska University Hospital.

Duties
The research group conducts translational vascular research in biomaterial from patients, animal and in vitro models and a utilizes broad array of biochemical-, molecular biology-, histology-, immunochemistry- genetic- and cell culture technologies including analyses of human samples. The successful candidate will work as technical assistant for the group with an opportunity to actively participate in research projects and thus strengthen knowledge of working with a broad variety of methods/techniques in an international environment. The work includes the following tasks:

  • Management and processing of tissue samples from patients and animals
  • Processing of blood samples from patients and animals
  • Sectioning of tissue samples from both paraffin embedded and cryopreserved specimens
  • Histochemical, immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization staining’s of tissue sections
  • Assisting researchers within the group with experimental procedures
  • Assisting with inventory, orders, and distribution of general supplies.
  • Other more independent duties may arise depending on the qualification of the applicant.

Entry requirements

  • Certified BMA with expertise and experience in histopathology.
  • Tissue processing
  • Paraffin sectioning of hard, calcified tissue
  • Cryosectioning
  • Histochemical and immunohistochemically staining’s of tissue specimens
  • In situ hybridization techniques
  • Experience from working with human biobanks
  • Experience in Elisa, protein biochemistry, cell- and molecular biology techniques is a merit.

We expect you to be a positive, flexible and organized person with good communication skills and abilities to collaborate and work in a highly dynamic international research team. You need to be able to work both in a team as well as independently. Your work is thorough and diligent, and you are good at documenting your work.

Furthermore, you have excellent abilities in Swedish and English languages in both writing and speaking. Personal skills will be highly valued.
