Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Medicin/Center for Infectious Medicine(CIM)

The Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM; http://www.ki.se/cim) is a research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge with a focus on translational studies of the human immune system and infectionimmunity in humans. CIM is located within the Karolinska Institutet’s newly established research facilities, ANA Futura.

Research groups
The candidate will work in the research group headed by Professor Anna Norrby focusing on host host-pathogen interactions in acute bacterial infections (Norrby-Teglund; http://ki.se/en/medh/annanorrby-teglund-group). A key focus will be on the identification of host response signatures during Gram-positive bacterial infections, i.e. Staphylococccus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes infections, to enable identification of biomarkers and/or targets for intervention.

Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced microbiologist as well as a cell (tissue) biologist for studies of host-pathogen interactions in severe invasive bacterial infections. The successful candidate will include analyses of human cell and tissue model systems as well as patient materials and omics data. A particular focus is on streptococcal and staphylococcal infections. We seek candidates that can independently design, conduct and complete high quality research projects.

Qualifications and entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral researcher if they have obtained a PhD. The applicant should have a PhD in a relevant field, i.e. microbiology, infection biology, cell biology and/or immunology. The applicant must have proven experience of successful high quality research, as evident by publications in respected international journals. Experience in the area of host-pathogen interactions, work with streptococcal and staphylococcal bacteria, cell and tissue cultures, inflammation, experience with confocal microscopy, and omics analyses is of merit. The applicants should be collegial, appreciate team work, possess excellent experimental skills and be enthusiastic and dedicated researchers. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.

The applicant can have a scheduled date for PhD-dissertation (in the mentioned subjects). In the latter case, however, the employment can only be approved once the applicant has been awarded his/her doctoral degree.
