Karolinska Institutet,

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Division
In the division “Receptor Biology & Signaling” headed by Prof Gunnar Schulte, G protein-coupled receptors and particularly Class F receptors are in focus. The work aims to better understand how ligands interact with Class F receptors, how conformational changes are established to activate the receptors and consequently to initiate interaction and activation of intracellular signaling components. Functional selectivity of Class F receptors towards heterotrimeric G proteins or other pathways are analyzed with the hope to exploit the novel knowledge therapeutically. Duties
The research project is aiming to understand underlying molecular details of Class F receptor activation for future drug development. The highly motivated candidate, with a strong background in GPCR pharmacology, is expected to drive research project, technical development and concept development from idea to publication. The candidate’s broad expertise in wet laboratory and in silico experiments is expected to serve as a resource for the research team. The candidate will participate in supervision of masters and PhD students. In addition to lab work, the applicant is expected to take an active, constructive and developing part in lab management.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

Other requirements
The applicant should have a profound background in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology with emphasis on GPCR pharmacology. Solid experience in cell culture, resonance energy transfer-based (FRET/BRET) techniques, cloning, and protein biochemistry, are required. Documented experience (previous high quality publications) with computational modelling of GPCRs, molecular dynamics simulations and/or ligand docking is a requirement. Experience with software such as GraphPad Prism, PyMOL, GROMACS, VMD is advantageous for selection.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  2. A complete list of publications
  3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
