Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Biochemistry

Division
The Division of Biochemistry has a long history of research in redox biology. Several projects in the division center around the role of thioredoxin and glutaredoxin systems in health and disease. Another focus is on the synthesis, function and biomedical applications of selenoproteins, i.e. proteins containing a reactive selenocysteine (Sec) residue. Duties
The research group of Elias Arnér is currently recruiting a Senior Researcher on a project tied to a larger research grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundations focused on redox biology processes of relevance in cancer treatment (see www.kaw.wallenberg.org/en/node/1480). The successful candidate is expected to study the biochemical processes regulating tyrosine-protein phosphatases (PTPs), especially in relation to cancer growth, growth factor responses and intracellular reductive pathways as regulated by the thioredoxin and glutaredoxin systems. Duties of the recruited Senior Researcher will include being responsible for experimental work with cell cultures, biochemical analyses and enzymatic assays. Tumor samples and normal tissues from mouse models as well as patient materials might also be analyzed. The successful candidate will furthermore be expected to raise significant independent funding, contribute to the authoring of comprehensive publications, supervise younger students and assist in departmental teaching.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending his or her doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Assistant professor. Prior experience from studies of PTP regulatory pathways will be seen as an important additional merit. In addition to this, displayed pedagogical proficiency or other related skills that are relevant to the appointment's duties may be required to be eligible.

Bases of assessment
We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English: Curriculum vitae, qualifications and description of planned research, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet’s qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/qualificationsportfolio).

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.

At Karolinska Institutet a 6-month trial period is required for all permanent appointments.
