Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Division of Molecular Metabolism
The Division of Molecular Metabolism (https://ki.se/en/mbb/research-division-of-molecularmetabolism) at the Department for Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (https://ki.se/en/mbb/startpage) is located at the newly built and modern Biomedicum research laboratory (https://ki.se/en/staff/biomedicum) at Solna campus of Karolinska Institutet. Our research aims at understanding the regulation of mitochondrial function and the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease and ageing. The current research encompasses biochemical and genetic studies of patients with inherited diseases as well as basic scientific approaches to understand the regulation of mtDNA expression, mitochondrial biogenesis and mitochondrial metabolism. Both patient material (tissues and cells), genetically modified fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) and mice (Mus musculus) are used in these studies. The overall aim of the Division of Molecular Metabolism is to combine these different areas of research to get insights into disease pathophysiology and to develop novel treatments. The Division of Molecular Metabolism offers an outstanding research environment and a close interaction between basic science and clinical science and diagnostics at the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases (CMMS) at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. The newly founded Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing - Karolinska Institutet Laboratory (MPI-KI laboratory) is also integrated into our laboratory. Excellent access to the most advanced resources in molecular and cell biology is available at the department and at the national core facilities at the Science for Life laboratory (https:// www.scilifelab.se).
Duties
We are currently looking for a Research Assistant to form an essential part of our research team in mitochondrial genetics, led by Professor Nils-Göran Larsson. The responsibilities of the Research Assistant will be varied and include:

*Performing diverse molecular biology techniques e.g. extracting RNA, DNA or protein from cells and/or mouse tissues, PCR, qRT-PCR and western blotting.
*Genotyping mice.
*Ordering, receiving, and distributing chemicals and laboratory supplies, and handling of invoices.
*Assisting with inventory and organization of chemicals and lab materials.
*Preparing and aliquoting reagents, for instance preparation of fly food

Qualifications
We welcome applications from candidates with academic qualifications at least corresponding to BSc in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Biomedicine, Molecular Biology, or other related fields. The successful candidate is a responsible, service-minded person with good communication and organizational skills who enjoys working with people and take pride in delivering work of good quality. The work requires:
*Excellent communication skills and a service focus.
*Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
*Previous experience of laboratory work and molecular biology techniques is an advantage.
The working language is English. Good knowledge of the Swedish language is an advantage. The applicant must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary environment. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
