The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.
Division
Aging Research Center (ARC; http://ki-su-arc.se/) is one of the divisions at the NVS department, but is located close to KI Campus-Nord in Stockholm. The Aging Research Center is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing psychology, sociology, and various branches of medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, and psychiatry). In the psychology sector of the center, we chart the brain correlates of cognitive aging and seek to understand how genetic factors and experience shape development of brain and cognition in adulthood and old age. We approach these research questions with small-scale neuroimaging studies, larger-scale intervention (e.g., training) studies, and large-scale population-based longitudinal studies. Typical methods include psychometric measurements, experimental methods from cognitive psychology, functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET).
Duties
The assistant will be involved in a study investigating structural brain changes during motor learning. The assistant's main duties will be to scan research participants with a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner, as well as to recruit and instruct them beforehand. Additionally, there may be some minor data-preparation and administrative tasks. Even though our department is located in Stockholm, the project will be carried out at Skåne University Hospital in Lund, and all the activities related to the position will be performed there.
The position lasts for eleven months. Most scanning will take place during weekends and perhaps also some evenings during weekdays, so it is very important that the assistant is available then (days off will therefore be during weekdays). The scan dates are booked in advance, allowing the assistants to plan his/her schedule beforehand. The assistant will be required to take a short course to operate the scanner.
Entry requirements
We are looking for candidates who possess strong social skills and are thorough, independent, and efficient. Proficient communication skills in Swedish or English are required. We are an international and dynamic team and value highly candidates who enjoy acquiring new skills and knowledge. Experience with data collection in psychological and imaging studies, as well as undergraduate education in psychology or neuroscience, are an advantage.
Application process
An application should contain the following documents in English or Swedish: Curriculum vitae, personal letter, and references.
