Department of Medicine, Solna, Dermatology and Venereology division

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several divisions that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Division
The Department of Medicine, Solna consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The Dermatology and Venreology unit is located in buildings at the Centre of Molecular Medicine (CMM; http://cmm.ki.se/). The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaboration with clinical departments and other national and international research groups.

Duties
The position is open for one or two highly motivated scientist with a strong background in experimental life science and proven expertise in cell and molecular biology, metabolism or mitochondria. The applicants will be responsible for planning and performing in vitro and in vivo experiments . There will be a strong emphasis on mouse wound healing experiments. The research project is focused on the role of mitochondria in skin biology. We are looking for one highly motivated person with strong competence in running projects independently but also having good abilities for team work and cooperation.

Entry requirements
Applicants should have a PhD degree within the area of biomedical research and have strong interest in medical and biological problems.  The applicants needs to have documented previous experience with cell culture and mouse or rat animal work. Previous experience with other animal disease models, competence in molecular biology, imaging and mitochondria is an advantage. Previous experience in supervising students and working with method development are meritorious. The applicants should demonstrate ability to manage simultaneous projects and to interact well with others in the research group.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. 

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. 

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
