Karolinska Institutet,

At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology we teach and conduct internationally acclaimed, high-quality research in Physiology, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Intensive care. We have around 400 employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students. Our research fields include cellular signaling, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, neuropsychopharmacology, neuroinflammation, pharmacogenetics, regenerative medicine, Renal System, anesthesiology and intensive care, muscle physiology and pain. Our collaboration with the clinics at Karolinska University Hospital provides unique opportunities for translational research within our subjects. Division
The postdoc project will be conducted in Qiaolin Deng’s research group with the organizational affiliation to Dept. Physiology and Pharmacology. The research group is interested in early embryonic development with specific focus on the specification process from primordial germ cells to functional gametes. Our goal is to better understand the mechanism of how transcription factors and signaling network controlling fate decisions in the temporal and spatial manner with the state-of-the-art technologies.

Duties
The group has established several key resources and techniques in the lab including mouse reporter lines, in vivo lentiviral manipulation, single-cell RNA and ATAC-sequencing and LCM-seq that enable us to perform lineage tracing and fate mapping in unprecedent resolution. We aim to address the following questions: (1) the role of niche environment for initial germ cell specification; (2) fail-safe mechanism of migration and origin for germ cell tumors; (3) transgenerational inheritance of disease by germ cells. The postdoctoral researcher will mainly use genetic mouse models and LCM-seq to understand the mechanisms of germ cell migration and clonal propagations. The postdoctoral researcher will also participate in the understanding the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of transgenerational inheritance of disease by germ cells using PCOS mouse model.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

For this position we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD degree in developmental biology, stem cell biology, molecular biology or related area. We expect the candidate to have a strong scientific background with relevant expertise in single cell biology. Experience from work with mouse and human stem cells and animal models are a strength. Good knowledge of both spoken and written English and a positive team player are highly appreciated.

Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
