The ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility at the Center for Infectious Medicine enables the safe handling of, and research on, both airborne and non-airborne viruses, bacteria, and patient samples. The facility supports a growing number of researchers at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital. The Center for Infectious Medicine also offers a dynamic research environment with the aim of being an internationally leading translational center in immunology.

Your mission

Contemporary research often requires technically advanced methods and tools, placing high demands on staff competence. We are now seeking a part-time Research Assistant (30%) for the ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility at Karolinska Institutet, Campus Flemingsberg.

As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for providing qualified expertise as well as technical and methodological services and development. You will handle matters related to operations, maintenance, biosafety, and chemical management. You will support researchers and collaborators in addressing their questions and needs, and assist with the ordering of services and materials. In your role, you will also be responsible for supporting users to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with applicable guidelines and governing documents, including participation in events where the core facility is presented to internal and external stakeholders. You will also follow up on service and quality assurance of instruments in close collaboration with technical staff. In addition, duties related to research, education, or administration may occur.

The work is largely independent and varied, but carried out in close collaboration with the Director of the ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility, the facility’s users, and colleagues. You will report to the Director of the ANA Futura BSL3 Core Facility.

The position is based on site in Flemingsberg, and certain tasks are performed in a BSL3 environment. The schedule is determined by operational needs and established by agreement.

Your profile

We are seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Biomedicine, or a related field. To succeed in this role, we believe you have at least two years of documented professional experience in a laboratory environment. We expect documented experience in culturing or handling microorganisms and various types of sample material, as well as performing functional microbiological or immunological analyses at biosafety level 2 (BSL2). Experience working at biosafety level 3 (BSL3) is considered meritorious.

You also possess excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written, and a basic understanding of Swedish.

In the recruitment process, particular emphasis will be placed on laboratory proficiency, strong commitment, and excellent communication skills. Great importance will also be attached to personal qualities, relevant professional experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
