The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM conducts cutting edge research within the areas of environmental and occupational medicine, toxicology, physiology, epidemiology, and biostatistics with the aim to clarify how environmental and lifestyle factors affect our health and which role genes have. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups. Biostatistics and bioinformatics play a crucial role in the work being performed at our Institution.

Your mission

The position will include work on bioinformatics, use of machine learning of transcriptome data, scRNASeq data and/or microbiome 16S data within a European project funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking on immune mediated diseases of which Karolinska Institutet is a partner and that is under the coordination of Prof Marta E. Alarcón-Riquelme and with collaboration from the pharmaceutical industry as in-kind contributors. The project has as aim to identify the molecular profiles of response and non-response to various treatments using clinical trial data, as well as data from observational and interventional studies ongoing in the project. Among the diseases involved are the inflammatory bowel diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and asthma. The work will be focused on SLE. The position is temporary for 12 months. 

Your profile

An individual with knowledge in bioinformatics and biostatistics with demonstrated experience, with knowledge in script writing, the use of R and python. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed a doctoral degree, but is not absolutely necessary.

Knowledge on the analysis and handling of transcriptome data and/or analyses of microbiome data are an important advantage and in particular the use of such data in autoimmune diseases or other complex diseases. Experience with machine learning is also looked for. Experience with scRNASeq data is greatly valued. Deconvolution of cellular data as well as programing and script writing are also valued.
