Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We study the role of immune cells in cancer, with a particular emphasis on how T cells interact with cancer‑associated fibroblasts within the tumor microenvironment. The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Campus Flemingsberg is one of Karolinska Institutet’s largest departments, comprising nine research divisions, including the Division of Clinical Immunology where this project will be conducted. Our laboratory is housed in ANA Futura, a state‑of‑the‑art research facility that offers comprehensive infrastructure and advanced equipment for cutting‑edge cellular and molecular biology research.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with a strong interest in tumor immunology and cancer‑associated fibroblasts. The primary focus of the position is to investigate interactions between T cells and cancer‑associated fibroblasts in pancreatic cancer. The successful applicant will employ a broad range of immunological techniques, including multicolor flow cytometry, multiplex protein assays, and fluorescence microscopy, to characterize immune cells and to better understand the microenvironment in which they function. In vitro cell cultures and 3D models will also be used to study immune cell responses and migration.

The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and will be expected to coordinate and supervise students in the laboratory. In addition to contributing to ongoing projects, the candidate will be encouraged to apply for research funding to initiate their own project. The role also includes writing scientific manuscripts for publication.

Your profile

The applicant should have a solid background in cellular immunology and a strong interest in cancer‑associated fibroblasts, ideally demonstrated by first‑author publications in reputable peer‑reviewed journals. Experience with multicolor flow cytometry, associated analysis software, and cell culture is required. Hands‑on experience with CRISPR/Cas9‑mediated gene editing, including vector‑based delivery systems, as well as experience in isolating cells from human tissues and familiarity with digital pathology analyses will be considered strong merits.

Excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is essential. We are seeking an energetic and dedicated individual who will actively contribute to our team and who has the ambition to teach.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
