Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology. CMB is located in Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna under one roof to promote collaboration. Biomedicum houses approximately 1,200 researchers and other personnel and allows expensive equipment to be shared and utilized more effectively.

The Llorens laboratory offers a vibrant, stimulating and international environment. Our lab uses single cell and spatial genomics technologies with innovative experimental platforms to enable the design of specialized gene therapy constructs to treat central nervous system (CNS) disorders.

Your mission

The research assistant will be an active member of a multidisciplinary team developing experimental pipelines to validate regulatory elements for gene therapy applications.
The successful candidate will contribute to projects aimed at testing gene therapy constructs in relevant cellular and tissue contexts, using both animal models and human patient samples.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, cloning, and molecular assembly of gene therapy constructs containing candidate regulatory elements
  • Perform in vivo experiments with laboratory animals to generate injury models and deliver therapeutic constructs
  • Apply spatial genomics technologies to validate efficacy and specificity of the selected constructs
  • Work closely with computational researchers to refine experimental designs based on machine learning-driven predictions

Your profile

We are recruiting a highly motivated and detail-oriented experimental scientist with a strong interest in gene regulation and gene therapy.

Qualifications:

  • MSc degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, neuroscience, or a related field (or equivalent laboratory experience)
  • Solid hands-on experience in molecular biology, DNA/RNA work, and standard biochemical techniques
  • Qualifications to perform rodent research in accordance with institutional and regulatory guidelines are highly appreciated
  • Familiarity with single-cell and/or spatial genomics assays is an advantage
  • Fluent written and spoken English
