The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master’s programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.

The Centre for Epidemiology and Community Medicine (CES) is a university healthcare unit at Stockholm County Council (SLSO), Region Stockholm. The purpose of the centre is to contribute to good and equal health and care for the population of Stockholm County. The unit focuses on the entire public health innovation chain – from epidemiological surveillance to support for the implementation of health promotion and preventive measures. CES has approximately 80 employees.

Description of the subject area

Medical psychology encompasses the application of psychology in healthcare. The subject takes an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on preventing and alleviating mental illness through early intervention, structural measures, and behavior change methods at the individual, group, and societal levels. This field integrates knowledge from psychology, public health science, and epidemiology, making it particularly relevant for public health-oriented research and education.

Your mission

You will lead and conduct research in the field with a focus on the development, implementation, and evaluation of preventive measures in mental health. This includes developing and evaluating measurement instruments in the field. The role also involves conducting epidemiological studies as a basis for the development of preventive measures. You will actively seek research grants and work closely with both Swedish and international actors in the field. The position also includes supervising doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as planning and teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels. You are expected to actively contribute to the department's other activities and to a strong scientific environment.

The position is combined with a 50% clinical position at the Center for Epidemiology and Community Medicine (CES). In your clinical role, you will lead and operate regional assignments with the aim of measuring and mapping the mental health of the population, exploring the need for measures to promote and prevent mental health, and identifying, developing, and evaluating methods for preventive work. The work also includes providing expert support to the political and civil service leadership of Region Stockholm and the knowledge management organization.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific skills and very good pedagogical skills, and clinical skills.

It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

The employment will be combined with a position as licensed psychologist at the Centre for Epidemiology and Community Medicine, Region Stockholm, and therefore you must hold a Swedish psychologists license.

Since the employment includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale, CERS).

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (2) and clinical skills (1).

It is furthermore meritorious that you:

  • have experience and broad methodological expertise in the development, implementation, and evaluation of preventive measures.
  • are well acquainted with epidemiological study design
  • have experience in leading and operating regional assignments in the field.
  • have documented experience in leadership in research as well as research‑and‑development activities.
  • have experience in developing and evaluating measurement instruments for mapping mental health
